Turning 37 in May felt different—not better, not worse, just… different. My 36th year was full of lessons, challenges, and change—not just personally, but professionally, too. As I step into this next year, I’m realising that if I can apply everything I’ve learned to how we run our business and support our clients, that’s a win in my book.
Here are the three biggest lessons I’m taking with me:
1. There is never a “Right” Time
We speak to so many people who dream of moving to Spain… in t”hree to five years”. And while planning is important, life rarely waits for our perfect timeline.
This past year reminded me how fragile plans can be. If you know that the move will ultimately make you happier, why wait? Life is short, and sometimes the best thing you can do is take the leap before circumstances decide for you.
2. We Can’t Control Everything—Even in Business
As relocation specialists, we pride ourselves on helping people avoid common mistakes when moving to Spain. We bring our experience to the table so our clients don’t have to learn things the hard way. But this year, I’ve accepted something important: sometimes, people have to do things their way.
We’ve had clients challenge our advice, and while we always explain the reasoning behind our approach, we’ve learned to support alternative decisions—without judgment. If things go well, brilliant. And if they don’t, we’ll be there to help guide them forward.
3. Embrace the Forks in the Road
Not every move to Spain is smooth. In fact, some people find it really tough. There are bureaucratic surprises, cultural differences, and emotional ups and downs. But change is inevitable. It’s how we handle it that matters.
This year reminded me that it’s okay to feel unsettled when the path shifts. What matters is staying flexible. If your expectations change, or your reasons for moving evolve, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed—it means you’re growing.
Final Thought
So, here’s to this year ahead. To doing things differently. To helping people move to Spain not just with logistics in hand, but with hearts and minds open to change. If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that we’re all just figuring it out as we go—and that’s perfectly okay.
If you’re thinking about your next chapter, whether it’s Spain or somewhere else, maybe now’s the time to stop waiting and start exploring.
